New Wailea grocery store now open!

The Island Gourmet Market at the Shops at Wailea has finally opened! So we went and checked it out. As grocery stores go, it will not take the place of conventional grocery stores (in Kihei we have three, Safeway, Times and Foodland). But, for the Wailea crowd, this is definitely more convenient.

When we walked in, it felt like going into an ABC store, probably because they have all the touristy things an ABC store carries. When I checked out their website I saw, it's an ABC store affiliate, so there you go, that explains that.

However, they have several fridges and a small grocery department, I'd say you can get the basics, everything from cereals to meat to a small fresh produce section. They have my favorite jam there (Bonne Maman), so not bad at all. The real winner here is the deli section. They have pre-made sandwiches, salads, sushi etc, but you can also get things made to order. I think this will be a real win for Wailea guests, particularly those staying in hotel rooms with no kitchen who don't want to pay resort prices for lunch. The salads looked good.

The prices? Well, I'd say they are more or less comparable to what you'd pay at the grocery stores. More or less.

Remember, Shops at Wailea starts charging for parking October 1st, however, the first hour is complimentary and as long as you spend $25 or more at any store, you will get two additional hours of parking validated.
