Take a drive upcountry!

Yesterday we took our guests for an upcountry tour. On the way up, we stopped at the Surfing Goat Dairy, in lower Kula. Turn right on Hansen Road (by the Sugar Cane Factory), then turn right at the sign going to the landfill, and follow that road up Haleakala. You will eventually see the Surfing Goat Dairy on the right hand side.

two three week old kids playing
You can take a tour of the farm, or just pet the goats (they had three week old babies!) and sample their cheeses. We picked up two yesterday - the "Canada" goat cheese (with cranberries and cinnamon) and the "Men's Challenge" which has horse radish and cayenne pepper in it. Delicious!

Then back in the car and up to the Ulupalakua Ranch General Store for my husband's favorite burgers. Yum! Turning out of the goat farm, you head right up the mountain til you reach the Kula Hwy. Turn right and just continue on that road, to the end of Kula and beyond... Just stay on the road, you'll find it on the right side (about half hour or so).

Tedeshi Winery
There are public washrooms across the road at Tedeshi Winery, so that was the next stop for a wine tasting. Have you tried their pineapple wine yet?

Back to Kula to Grandma's Coffee House (it's the first cluster of houses, next to a gas station, when you reach Kula again). They grow their own coffee and have wonderful deserts. I think we should have stopped there in the morning, though, because they were all out of pie! The pineapple coconut squares were delicious though!

Kula Country Farms farm stan
On the way back we hit the Kula Country Farms farm stand for some of their strawberries, a papaya, lilikoi, cucumbers etc.

It was a fun day! Time to curl up and have a nap!
